This is Praise Sunday, the 4th Sunday of the month, and it is also potluck! We are having “Souper Sunday”, so please bring your favorite soup, salad, side dish or dessert.
The Food Pantry served 150 families last Friday (families are eligible to come once a month per USDA regulations) so that equates to over 650 families per month. You can help by donating the monthly toiletries that we announce every month. Details are below in the food panty section.
The Annual Congregational Meeting will be Sunday, February 1st after the regular service during Coffee Hour.
The Celebration of Life for Ann Lenk is February 28th at 11:00 with a reception following in O’Bryon Hall hosted by the ladies of DOK.
Book studies are held on the first and second Sundays of the month. Beginning in January we will be discussing the Theology of the Devil (Satan) and Demons. (No book). Grab some food at Coffee Hour and join us in Ricker Hall. No gathering on February 1st .
This month's collection is for SURE. "SURE is a faith-based Justice Ministry designed to train volunteer leaders to work with community leaders and public officials to correct inequities in the Sarasota community that adversely affect the poor, under-served and disadvantaged. We provide hope for equality of opportunity for the future. For additional information about the programs you may talk to Chloteal Lewis or Sue Tharp. Information can also be found at https://www.sarasota-united.org/about-sure
Needless to say the amount of families visiting our Food Pantry has doubled. You can help by volunteering, providing the toiletry items listed below, or donate funds. To donate online please go to: https://www.stwilfredsarasota.org/
FYI – Our Food Pantry serves approximately 600 households per month and is increasing! Changes to the SNAP program of supplemental food assistance has been reduced by the federal government and an increase of local families needs is expected.
For January the Food Pantry is collecting liquid cleaning supplies. For February it will be shampoo. Toiletries are not included with government food assistance and the need is greater than ever. They are in need of egg cartons, paper and plastic bags. There is a basket in the narthex, or kindly bring the items to the office.
The Food Pantry can always use some help on Fridays distributing the food and some strong arms on Thursdays. Please arrive around noon. If you know of someone that can lift heavy things that would be great! This would be on Thursdays and they don't have to commit to every week.
